Revitalize ancestral palates through traditional Hawaiian agricultural practices

Family owned, Traditionally grown

Nohoʻana Farm is a Native Hawaiian family-owned regenerative farm on 2 acres of ancestral kuleana land in the ahupuaʻa of Waikapū, Maui. Our nuʻukia (mission) is to “Revitalize ancestral palates through Hawaiian agricultural practices.” Since 2004, our ʻohana has been restoring and cultivating an extensive loʻi kalo and ʻulu agroforestry system fed by the fresh waters of the Waikapū Stream.

We are deeply committed to engaging keiki to kūpuna through our Mahi a Ola Bi-Lingual ʻĀina-Based Education Program. Participants are provided hands-on learning experiences and taught about the importance of traditional Hawaiian agriculture and food preparation, water resource stewardship, native ecosystem restoration, ethnobotanical uses of plants, invasive species management, and animal husbandry - all within a cultural landscape that promotes ʻāina resiliency.

Through our newly constructed Manawaiulu Food Hub in 2023, we are expanding poi and ʻulu flour production along with other nutritious value-added products that support the mauli ola (health and well-being) of our community while increasing greater access to sustainably grown Polynesian food crops, cultivated on our farm and by others on Maui. Manawaiulu also serves as a community resilience food hub, providing locally sourced farm-to-table meals to Lahaina wildfire survivors who have temporarily relocated to our moku of Wailuku.
